ABOUT THE BOOK

All the talk is of the new blue planet...
This new world weighs a yatto-gram. But everything is trial-size; tread-on-me-tiny or blurred-out-of-focus huge. There are leaves that have grown as big as cities, and there are birds that nest in cockleshells. On the white sand there are long-toed claw prints deep as nightmares, and there are rock pools in hand-hollows finned by fish...

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jeanette Winterson OBE, whose writing has won the Whitbread Award for Best First Novel, the John Llewellyn Rhys Memorial Prize and the E. M. Forster Award, is the author of some of the most purely imaginative and pleasurable novels of recent times, from Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit to her first book for children, Tanglewreck. She is also the author of the essays Art Objects. Her latest book is The Stone Gods (Penguin 2007).

LIBRARIAN'S COMMENTS

In this funny, polemical and fast-paced account of our own planetary story and imaginary future, Winterson successfully combines devastating social commentary with a tender and playful tale of love amidst destruction.
