Rita Perera graduated from the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya, in 1956. She subsequently obtained the Diploma in Education from the same University in 1963 and the R.S.A. Diploma in Teaching English from Westminster College, London in 1979. She taught in secondary schools and tertiary institutes, in Sri Lanka and U.K. from 1956 to 1991. After her return to Sri Lanka she has been actively engaged in voluntary social welfare work, especially with under-privileged children and is currently the Hony. Secretary of a NGO in Sri Lanka (FONCA...Friends of Needy Children Association). |
