THE BOOK

| Kilali Crossing describes a typical journey across a dangerous strip of water in war-torn Sri Lanka. The Jaffna Peninsula was held by Government forces and there was no land route available from Vavuniya, the southern-most town in Tamil held territory. All other routes were blocked by one or other combatant in the civil war. Thousands crossed back and forth daily despite the shootings and bombings, protected by the Tamil insurgents who owned and operated the boats. Some crossings were successful, some were not .. |
| ABOUT THE AUTHOR |
| C. Suriyakumaran has worked with the UN Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East and the UN Environment Programme in Asia-Pacific. He has written extensively on development, environment, international co-operation and Third World problems. Since leaving the UN he has lectured in universities in London, New York, Boston, California, India and others. This is his first novel. |
